Background
The
Institute's mission is to assist future leaders in the library and
associated cultural and information industry to maximise their
leadership skills and potential. We
want to position leaders to be proactive and effective voices in a
dynamic and sophisticated information environment.
This
is done through a combination of experiential learning, group and
individual exercises, and by working with a strong team of senior and
experienced Australian and New Zealand mentors. The Institute programme
includes exploration of leadership concepts including vision, risk
taking, creativity, communication, and styles of leadership.
It is a demanding, challenging and exciting experience.
The
Institutes are led by Becky Schreiber and John Shannon of Schreiber
Shannon Associates, who have facilitated previous Snowbird
Institutes in the USA and all our Aurora Institutes.
Mentors
The
mentors are a key part of the Institute.
They are leading Australian and New Zealand librarians, who act as facilitators, guides, sounding boards and role
models, and work closely with participants throughout the Institute.
Mentors share their professional and personal experiences,
participating on a voluntary basis which is an expression of their own
professional commitment.
Participants
are individuals with leadership potential and an ability to share with
others their vision and enthusiasm.
They will
normally have been employed for a minimum of three years and a maximum of
ten years following qualification.
However, applicants outside these particular criteria are
considered on their merits, and are encouraged to apply if they think
the Institute a potential benefit and that their contribution would be
substantial. Those considering applying should note that Aurora focuses on leadership rather than management.
Testimonials
and papers by previous Aurorans indicate what the Aurora experience
meant to them. Aurora participants and
mentors are listed here. |
