13-20 May Bayside Branch library. Bibliofest at the Library
You might find your local politician taking story time or Bruce Ruxton and other well-known celebrities borrowing out books behind the library desk. The week long bibliofest aims to raise awareness of the variety of activities, information and technology available at Bayside libraries. 15-19 May Frankston Library Service. Genealogy Demonstrations
Interested in genealogy? Always wanted to start your family tree? Well here is your opportunity! Staff will demonstrate how to use the Victorian Births, Deaths and Marriages on CD-ROM, Southdoc Heritage Index and Internet sites. One-hour FREE demonstrations will be held on 15, 17 and 19 May at the Frankston Library. Bookings are required for the sessions and can be made at the Frankston Library Information Desk. 15-21 May Eastern Regional Libraries Local politicians and councillors will visit our thirteen branches
either to chat to borrowers as they check out books or to be a part of our storytimes. Turn off the TV kits have been prepared to hand out to borrowers - with ideas for activities to replace TV viewing for the week.

15 May ALW Seminar Build, Renovate or Detonate: a seminar on the future of public library buildings.
This day-long seminar features six sessions on a range of issues including the social value of libraries, impact of technology, evolution of library spaces, economic decision-making and library design. Speakers include Dimity Reed, Professor of Urban Design at RMIT, Charles Wright, technology commentator, Fran Awcock, State Librarian and a range of architects, planners and library managers. The seminar is sponsored jointly by the Library Board of Victoria, Department of Infrastructure and Viclink and supported by ALIA Vic Branch, Country Public Libraries Group, Municipal Association of Victoria and Local Government Professionals Inc. Nauru House, Melbourne.

18 May Ballarat Regional Group Celebrity librarian day
Local celebrities have been invited to come and work on the Circulation desk for half an hour each to issue a few books and chat to the public. So far we've had lots of interest from the potential celebrities. The staff will also be dressing up on the day as celebrities, either living or dead!
In keeping with the theme of Library Week "Libraries - here for the long run" we started an Olympic Reading Marathon in local primary schools in March. This was launched by Steve Moneghetti and will finish in Library Week. The name of one of the participating schools will be drawn out of a hat by the Mayor of Ballarat on Celebrity Librarian day, to win a prize of a workshop with a children's author of their choice.
