Libraries connect people to ideas. It's a vital part of our commitment to promoting the free flow of information and facilitating all Australians' access to recorded knowledge, information, and creative works. This year’s theme highlights the self-directed discovery element of libraries and to celebrate libraries as the place to access, communicate, connect, educate, entertain and inform.

In 2009, National Simultaneous Storytime will once again be held during LIW. Help children discover libraries too! This popular event on Wednesday 27 May highlights the importance of books, reading and literacy for children, as well as promoting storytime activities in public libraries. More details on the NSS 2009 program will be available soon.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for National Library Technicians' Day, celebrated this year during LIW on Tuesday 26 May.
