InterALIAThe newsletter of the ALIA SA Group: August 2003Editors messageAs InterALIA settles into its new electronic format, the new editorial team is also settling in. Let's introduce ourselves (and like good librarians, we'll even do it in alphabetical order!) We are Leeanne Kimberley, Lee Welch and Benita Wheeler... Leeanne KimberlyLeeanne Kimberley completed a Bachelor of Education, Secondary Arts majoring in History and Sociology (these remain areas of great interest!). Upon graduating she moved to Canberra where she taught for a few years and completed a Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Management, specialising in Research Resources and Archives. She then moved into a position at the (then) Patent,Trade Marks and Designs Offices as an Examiner of Trade Marks. She also maintained the in-house library at the Office, which served as a major research facility for the Trade Marks arm of the Office. Now back in Adelaide and at home with two pre-schoolers, Leeanne continues to maintain an interest in the library sector, and is currently working towards her Masters in Information Science. Leeanne feels libraries are an integral tool in the constant battle to maintain social equity in the face of ever-evolving technologies, and the resulting potential for widening the gap between different socioeconomic groups. Lee WelchLee graduated with a BA in Library Studies in 1982 here in Adelaide and later added a Diploma from the Australian College of Journalism. Her career has included stints in public, special and academic libraries, along with a wide variety of work as a consultant and as a freelance writer and editor. Members with long memories may recall Lee's work with PressCom and Business Information before she took off for Ethiopia, Canberra and Zimbabwe in the 90s. Lee returned to Adelaide in 1997 and since then has worked with the National Textile Museum of Australia, SA chef Maggie Beer and the University of Adelaide's Faculty of Sciences. Lee co-edited All day, every day: effective library promotion in with Joanne Fuller in1994 and in 1999 her book The other 51 weeks: a marketing handbook for librarians was published. Lee remains a completely biased champion for libraries, whether she's working in one or not, has just become involved in initiatives to support The Smith Family's Learning for Life program and is still looking for someone to actually pay her to write cookbooks! Benita WheelerBenita completed her BA (Library and Information Management, Economics) - see how the degree has changed! - in 1997 and has been working her way up to Assistant Librarian at Advertiser Newspapers Ltd Editorial Library since mid-1998. She has had short work experience placements and contracts at various special and public libraries. She hasn't had anything published, yet, but is keeping her options open to move into journalism if the bug strikes! She is currently involved in a basic radio skills course at Radio Adelaide 101.5FM. She also has interests in music and amateur theatre. Also this month...
And much, much more! Is there an issue you would like InterALIA to investigate? Contact the editors (please remove '.nospam' from address). |
