InterALIA

The newsletter of the ALIA SA Group: December 2005

From the editor

Here we are at the end of another year. This month's edition wraps up 2005, in particular the end of year events. We have a full list of the nominees for ALIA star awards, and the words to your favourite Christmas carols, with a twist! We hear about a summer reading program in public libraries, and meet some more of our members.

Thanks to all the contributors this year, you helped InterALIA move from strength to strength. We'll be back in February, see you then!

From the convenor

Dear colleagues,

Best wishes for the Christmas season, and for a happy and successful new year.

2005 has been a very successful year for ALIASA and all of the SA ALIA groups. My thanks to all who contributed to the major events, in particular, the quiz night and last week's starry night. The tours, visiting speaker sessions and social events have all been well attended and supported by everyone.

The incoming committee for next year has been working hard in planning some similar blockbuster events for 2006:

  • The nuts n bolts function will start the year in March
  • UniSA awards/ALIA SA Library Achiever Award in May 2006
  • Christmas in July quiz night
  • NAC pizza night in September
  • Regional conference (late 2006)
  • Joint Christmas event in December

Going into 2006, the new ALIA SA office bearers are:

Convenor: Janetta Mascilongo, acquisitions librarian at Flinders University.
Janetta has been the convenor of ARCoM for the last two years, and a member of ALIA SA. She has worked a range of positions in special libraries and in libraries in the public sector. Janetta is also known for her interests in music, theatre and reading.

Treasurer: Kate Sinclair, liaison librarian for law and legal studies at Flinders University.
Kate became ALIA SA treasurer this year, and has a member of ALIA SA for three years. Kate has previously worked at the CPA Australia Library, and at the Barr Smith Library. Kate has also been a committee member of ALIA NGPAG, convenor of NLS2 held year, and was the recipient of the Metcalfe Award this year.

Secretary: Helen Kwaka, librarian at City of Tea Tree Gully Library Service.
Helen has been a member of ALIA SA this year, and was a member of the NLS2 committee. She has worked in public libraries for ten years, and is now in a co-managerial role. Her interests include bike-riding, lighthouses and holidaying overseas.

To the new committee and to you all, best wishes for Christmas and the new year,

Philip Keane, Convenor
