InterALIA

The newsletter of the ALIA SA Group: February 2005

From the editor

Welcome to the new year of InterALIA. The ALIA SA committee had their first meeting for the year recently and have some events in the pipeline for 2005. We welcome some new committee members, including Heather Dalby as secretary, Fiona Mariner representing info science and Blan MacDonagh representing specials. Catherine Hunt is representing mentoring.

Our edition this month will fill you in on some of the happenings late last year. You can go behind the scenes of a new international project based in Adelaide. You can travel along with some Adelaide librarians as they voyage around the world. Or see the tsunami affected areas of Sri Lanka. And you can take some time to consider the prospect of working on a contract basis. So fasten your seatbelt and enjoy the ride!

Dear colleagues

Last year was a successful and very busy year in South Australia. A number of groups had tours and site visits. We had the Joint Forum on Purchasing and Licensing Agreements with the SA division of the Australian Law Librarians' Group. Congratulations to Janetta Mascilongo and the organising committee from ARCoM, InfoSci(SA) and RAIS(SA) who presented the 'Alive and Clicking 2: Online Learning Explored' seminar in October - the last such library seminar to be held at the Underdale campus of UniSA.

Congratulations also to Kate Sinclair and the organising committee on the very successful 'New Librarians' Symposium 2' in December. That planning for NLS3 is already underway is a tribute to the work and energy of Kate and the NLS2 organising committee.

ALIA SA has a new committee this year, and is very grateful for the contribution of Fairlie Sampson as outgoing secretary. Fairlie worked very hard to keep track of meetings, the agendas and recording of the year's work. Welcome now to Heather Dalby, our new secretary.

A very big thank you also to Benita Wheeler as tireless editor of InterALIA in chasing deadlines and contributors of promised content for each issue.

Finally, a very special thank you to Lee Welch for her energy and inspiration in her all too short time as our local liaison officer. Sadly, Lee's other commitments saw Lee relinquish the LLO role last year, and we all wish Lee well and miss her.

Keep an eye out for our first 2005 function next month - watch this space!
