InterALIA April 2006

ALIA SA's monthly online newsletter

From the editor

Welcome to April edition of InterALIA.
ALIA recently enjoyed a visit from our Executive Director, Sue Hutley. Sue presented our Nuts and Bolts session, introducing to new office bearers, and many others, the workings of ALIA website and committees. Sue then stayed on for a general meet and greet session, and other attendees included Alan Smith of the State Library of South Australia, Helen Livingstone from University of SA and Ray Choate from University of Adelaide.

Please check out Sue's blog to see what else she has been up to. ALIA is looking forward to Library Week next month, and further visits from the ALIA Board of Directors later in the year.

From the convenor

Hello Everyone!

April brings not only a change of season and Easter celebrations, but the announcement of our recently appointed Local Liaison Officer, Fiona Butcher. It is our pleasure to welcome her to the position and to South Australia. The ALIA SA committee very much look forward to working with her in the coming months. It's fantastic to have her on board!

One particular project we have recommended to her is an investigation and analysis of professional development needs in regional South Australia. As many of you will be aware, a biennial regional conference has been held in the past; however it is now unclear whether such an event truly matches the needs and interests of our regional members. We believe that Fiona, as our Local Liaison Officer and representative of ALIA National Office, will be in the best position to help us organise a comprehensive survey of regional members and approach all relevant parties for the development of an effective programme, whether as a conference or in another format. For this reason, the regional conference planned for later this year will not go ahead. We apologise for any disappointment that this news brings, but hope that you will be impressed with the future programme that will be on offer once our investigations have been undertaken.

Needless-to-say other fantastic events will be coming this year, so keep watching our diary dates in 'Don't miss this' so we can keep you posted on all South Australian happenings which you really won't want to miss!
Wishing you a safe and happy Easter!

Janetta
