InterALIA February 2007

ALIA SA's monthly online newsletter

From the Convenor

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a safe and happy festive season and are looking forward to a busy 2007.

This year, ALIA SA has a full programme of events and activities planned. We're very excited as 2007 shapes up to be a big year of social activities and professional development opportunities. Make sure you don't miss out by checking our events calendar regularly.

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2007 South Australian Library Achiever of the Year Award. If you know someone who is a quiet achiever in SA libraries, why not nominate them and recognise our SA stars? You have plenty of time, with nominations due on 1 May.

Library and Information Week 2007 will see us holding our third annual Quiz Night , one of our most popular, colourful and hotly contested events. Start thinking about your team and look out for more details about the 2007 Quiz Night Theme coming soon!

Thanks to the generous support of the State Library of South Australia,
we are pleased to offer a series of quality full day PD workshops, including: -

  • Making your case...a workshop on developing a business case and applying for project funding... March 2007
  • Put your best geek forward...a workshop covering a range of the latest tech and Web 2.0 developments ... April 2007

In addition, following the success of our Basic Blogging 101 workshops last year, we will also be running a smaller series of hands-on workshops throughout 2007. The 'Basic 101' workshops will cover wikis, Flickr and social tagging, RSS and podcasting, giving attendees the chance to interact and experiment with each tool.

Last but not least, InterALIA is always looking for contributers. If your library is doing something special, why not write a short article about it? If you're a library student, opinion pieces or interviews for InterALIA are a great way to get familiar with the industry before you even graduate. If you are interested in contributing, please contact Benita for more details.
