Institutional membership

ALIA membership provides your organisation the opportunity to influence the development and quality of the profession and the service being provided in Australia, and to play an active role in achieving public and political recognition of the sector. Representing the interest of the whole library and information service sector, ALIA presents the unified voice of our sector when lobbying governments and when advocating with or on behalf of members.

All institutional members of ALIA have the right to vote in ALIA elections and to take advantage of the many benefits offered - both core services and 'value-adding'. Your nominated institutional representative holds the formal right to vote.

ALIA offers many core services to the sector and the people who work within it. The recognition of the educational competency of library and information services personnel is one of these key services. Others are:

There are six grades of institutional membership [C1 to C6], based on the non-salary budget of the library and information service within your institution. Membership fees include the following benefits:

Publications	Discounts to all ALIA publications, including the journals Australian Academic and Research Libraries, and additional copies of The Australian Library Journal and inCite
Events	Discounts to ALIA conferences, seminars and events for the organisational representative
aliaNEWS	aliaNEWS - the Association's regular news broadcast (forwarded to your organisational representative's e-mail address)
Advisory	Advisory information services and support materials provided to members-only (for example copyright legislation and industrial relations)
Career	Free copies of ALIA's Career development kit
Campaign	Promotional campaign materials - for example, Library and Information Week
ALIAnet	Member-only access to ALIAnet, including access to your membership records, online payment and/or registration for membership, conferences, events and promotional products
Vouchers	Entitlement to purchase and redeem interlibrary loan vouchers

AGLIN ASA ASLA RMAA	Member rates for conferences and PD activities of ALIA's partner associations: Australian Government Libraries Information Network (AGLIN), Australian Society of Archivists (ASA), Australian School Library Association (ASLA), Records Management Association Australia (RMAA).
IFLA LIANZA	Discounts to the conferences of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and Library and Information Society of New Zealand (LIANZA);
ALIA affinity program	ALIA has arranged discounts on a range of personal services for all members - from car rental to health cover.
Other Discounts	Discount rates on a variety of products and services for members.
And for members at C4, C5 and C6 level:
*inCite*	receive up to three free subscriptions of inCite to the same mailing address. (please write how many subscriptions to each journal you would like to receive on the application form.)
*ALJ*	receive up to two free subscriptions to The Australian Library Journal to the same mailing address. (please write how many subscriptions to each journal you would like to receive on the application form.)
Conferences	receive member rates for up to three staff attending ALIA conferences, seminars and workshops.
