The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) has launched the library reopening campaign themed ‘We’re back! Tell us how you missed us’, to remind students, organisations, local councils, and members of the community of the importance of libraries as physical spaces and their vital role in society.
Sue McKerracher ALIA CEO says ‘many public spaces, including public libraries, will soon be going through a staged reopening, following Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s statement made on 8 May 2020. We have created this campaign and a checklist for library staff, to help libraries reopen smoothly and safely, and to generate user quotes which we can use further down the line for library advocacy’.
The campaign includes free downloadable and editable materials, and a survey where library patrons can provide their feedback on what they missed most when their local library was closed. There are two toolkits: one for public libraries, which also links to a public survey, and one for other libraries.
