St Andrew's Cathedral School Library
New build or refurbishment: Refurbishment
Architect: Allen Jack + Cottier Architects
Project Completed: 29/01/2018
The SACS Library team consists of seven staff (5.2 FTE) working over three Library spaces, for Junior, Middle and Senior school. There are 1200+ students from Kindergarten to Year 12, in a co-educational, Anglican Independent day School. The Gawura school is also part of SACS, a Kindergarten to Year 6 school for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
In Junior & Gawura School, there is a weekly browse and borrow sessions for classes, and a timetabled lesson with the Teacher Librarian each week. The Library is also open every day during lunch and for two book clubs in the mornings before school. In Middle School, students are timetabled to read in the library with their English classes once a fortnight, with Library staff and teachers helping them to find appropriate reading material. During lunchtimes in the library students are reading, studying and playing games together while eating their lunch. In the Senior School, students are timetabled into the library on their study periods, where Teacher Librarians work with students on information gathering and digital literacy skills.
