Vote Library in the 2019 federal election

Vote Library is the Australian Library and Information Association’s (ALIA) 2019 federal election campaign, following the confirmation date of the federal election to be held on 18 May 2019.

This campaign encourages ALIA Members and library lovers around the nation to engage with the candidate that best represents the needs of their library services.

Get Involved

There are several ways that you can get involved in the campaign,

You can read our main points in the template letter to candidates which details how supporting libraries:

  • Gives every child a reading start.
  • Ensures that students have access to the information they need and the ability to distinguish genuine facts from fake news.
  • Provides people on low incomes with free internet access through public computers and with the skills to engage in our increasingly digital society.
  • Strengthens Australia’s research infrastructure, giving academics and researchers access to essential data.

You can use our free downloadable resources (below) and you can read our ALIA Member sourced agenda.

We are also partnering with other organisations with similar objectives to our own.

Adult Learning Australia has created the 'Lifelong learning and community education create a fairer Australia statement'.

With our fellow GLAM Peak members, we have created a GLAM election agenda which puts exemption of national cultural institutions from the efficiency dividend front and centre.

ALIA has created free resources that you can use to support the campaign, these can be downloaded as zip files below.
Each zip file contains a bin sticker (in JPG and EPS file types that you can get printed along with instructions); letterheads, a promo slide; social media tiles; and posters.

We would love to hear your thoughts on the campaign on social media, please tag your posts with #VoteLibrary and #auspol. If you have any questions email [email protected].
