Is it dis-information or mis-information?

Is it dis-information or mis-information?

Event Description

The perpetuation of false narratives in the mediatisation of public health and why evidence-based research is sometimes its own worst enemy.

This presentation examines the politicisation of mediatized public health information, notably how the ‘marketplace of ideas’ has become a Boxing Day sale of false ‘facts’ and sometimes dangerous opinions. After an overview of the contemporary public sphere, we examine how those producing evidence-based information may contend with a sometimes-hostile media environment through an awareness of audiences, and nuanced messaging.
