Research Review Series: Library Diplomacy

Join us for a Research Review Seminar Series with two researchers in the field of library diplomacy and hear about how to apply for the ALIA Research Award!

Join us for a Research Review Seminar Series session with librarians conducting research in the fascinating field of libraries and diplomacy.

We will hear from presenters Emilia Bell, Coordinator (Evidence Based Practice) Library Services, University of Southern Queensland, Co-founder of ANDPA (Association of Neurodivergent and Disabled GLAMR Professionals Australia) and PhD candidate at Curtin University and Randolf Mariano, Academic Engagement and Research Librarian, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences and PhD candidate at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

Emilia and Randolf will discuss their doctoral journeys and their research into the roles of libraries within international initiatives and efforts such as on climate change and sustainability. Thorough the lens of soft power and library and knowledge diplomacy, they look at how libraries impact international echelons of decision making within the United Nations and other NGOs, through bodies like the International Federation of Library Associations.

The session will be hosted by the ALIA Research Advisory Committee, and co-chair Dr Ellie Sayyad Abdi (Curtin) will introduce the seminar and provide information about the ALIA Research Grant Award, which is open for submissions from 1 February - 30 June 2024. Dr Nicole Johnston (Edith Cowan University) will share her experience as a recipient of the ALIA Research Grant Award. You can watch Nicole presenting her research in October 2023 here.

There will be time for questions at the end of the session. If you would like to send questions ahead of the webinar, please send them to [email protected] by Friday 23 February.

The ALIA Research Review Seminar Series provides a platform for academic and practitioner researchers to share and discuss their work and projects with the wider library and information sector community. Through this series ALIA endeavours to support the process of research being translated into practice by bringing researchers together with professional practitioners and on-the-ground workers in an engaging, informal setting. If you would like to discuss your research or have an idea for the series, contact: [email protected]

You will receive the Zoom link by email the day before the event.
