Advocacy

Our advocacy campaigns are great opportunities for the sector to promote its value and to highlight issues of importance to the communities we serve.

Australia Reads

Australia Reads is the nation’s biggest call to action, promoting reading, libraries and the local book industry, with the Australian Reading Hour a high spot each September. Download what you need for an event in your library.

Copyright reform

Through the Australian Libraries and Archives Copyright Coalition. ALIA has successfully advocated for essential reforms to copyright legislation, balancing the rights of creators with the benefits to society – but there is more still to do.

Early language and literacy

Since 2016, ALIA has worked with peak bodies in early childhood to promote the importance of early language and literacy as a national priority. Our proposed national strategy launched on 8 September 2021. You can read it here.

Greening Libraries

Climate change and its effects pose an increasing threat to libraries and the communities they serve.

Indigenous Matters

ALIA’s vision is for an Australia where library and information services are fully inclusive of Australia’s First Nation’s cultures and perspectives, truth telling is supported, and where First Nations peoples are an integral part of the Australian library services workforce.

Australian School Library Day

Join ALIA’s celebration of Australian School Library Day, raising the profile of school libraries and teacher librarians and recognising the critical role that school libraries play in achieving the best student outcomes.

Libraries Transform

The Libraries Transform campaign is designed to increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals. Explore key messages and use the custom toolkit of resources for marketing, advocacy, outreach activities and more.

Media literacy

As a founder of the Australian Media Literacy Alliance in 2020, ALIA is working with institutions and academics to progress a national strategy for media literacy. You can help by supporting Media Literacy Week in October.

Students Need School Libraries

ALIA is an active member of the Students Need School Libraries movement, calling for well-funded, well-resourced school libraries staffed by qualified professionals. Add your voice to ours – find out how.

Sustainable Development Goals

You can make a positive difference to the world by adopting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Find out more about ALIA, the SDG and stretch targets for Australian libraries.
