Library Lovers’ Day 2019

Library Lovers’ Day, 14 February 2019, is an opportunity for libraries and library users to celebrate all the ways that love can be found in the library. Organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), this annual event involves hundreds of libraries and thousands of library users.

The theme for Library Lovers’ Day 2019 is ‘library love stories’ and there is a range of ways that you can get involved on the day.

This year, ALIA is running a 200-word flash fiction story competition. The story can be about anything it just has to involve love and libraries and starts with the story prompt 'there was love to be found in the library'.

“Every year ALIA’s Library Lovers’ Day is celebrated in and around libraries right across Australia. Most people’s first thought is of public libraries, but there are school, university, TAFE, health, government, law and other special libraries – all much loved and appreciated by their users.

“There are also the National, State and Territory Libraries, which play such an important part in preserving the documentary heritage of Australia. There is so much to celebrate not just on 14 February, but all year round," Sue McKerracher, ALIA CEO, said.

As always, ALIA will be asking all library and information professionals to share their Library Lovers' Day stories on social media, using the hashtag #LibraryLoversDay.
