Vote Library is the Australian Library and Information Association’s (ALIA) 2019 federal election campaign, following today’s confirmation of the federal election to be held on 18 May 2019.
This campaign encourages ALIA Members and library lovers around the nation to engage with their candidates to promote the library election agenda.
ALIA CEO Sue McKerracher said, “Federal government doesn’t directly fund libraries, other than the National Library of Australia, but decisions made ‘on the hill’ affect schools, higher education, programs for communities, copyright, open access, and many other areas that have an impact on library and information services. A federal election provides a good opportunity to remind candidates about the value of all kinds of libraries and to seek their support if elected.”
There are several ways that you can get involved in the campaign: you can have a look at the template letter to candidates; you can use our free downloadable collateral; and you can read our Member sourced agenda to help develop your own advocacy ideas.
We would love to hear your thoughts on the campaign on social media, please tag your posts with #VoteLibrary and #auspol. If you have any questions email firstname.lastname@example.org.
