The Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Research and Education Network (REN) and The University of Sydney Library collaborated for this exciting project to transform the Westmead Hospital Library (WHL) service into a contemporary education space and a forward-thinking learning hub.
The Westmead Hospital Library offers a wide range of high-quality services to clinicians, researchers, students and the public to support their clinical, research and learning endeavours. The Library supports the Health Authority and Universities collaborative approach to develop new integrated approaches to education informed by research with a truly interdisciplinary approach. The Library provides access to extensive print and electronic information resources, and an innovative learning environment with 24/7 access.
In partnership with colleagues, from the University of Sydney Library, the team deliver tailored clinical information and library services that underpin the strategic priorities of the WSLHD and the University of Sydney. The vision for WSLHD is to build on its track record of success. Its priority is the delivery of high-quality healthcare with integrated medical research, education and private sector involvement, that will create more smart economy jobs leading to improvements in health outcomes for our community.
The University of Sydney is a key partner in this future health agenda and the Westmead precinct is the centre of transformational health services, research and education in western Sydney, internationally recognised for its depth and scale of expertise. Westmead is home to several leading health and medical service providers and research institutes. In 2018 more than a a 1000 University staff and affiliates work at Westmead, and various University centres, institutes, faculties and schools have a presence there. In addition, more than 1600 students undertake study, research or clinical placement here. Significant growth, in both staff and student numbers, is anticipated for the Westmead precinct.
