NSW Library & Information Excellence Award

Launched in 2024, the NSW Library & Information Excellence Award is an annual merit prize which celebrates and recognises the work of an individual working in the New South Wales LIS sector.  The award aims to promote library innovation and excellence and celebrate ALIA member achievements. It is run by the ALIA New South Wales Group

Eligibility

Any individual working in the LIS sector or in LIS research in NSW, and who is a financial member of ALIA (personal or institutional) is eligible for nomination. Nominations can be made:

  • By yourself, i.e., self-nomination
  • By the manager of your library or information centre or of the parent body
  • By one of your peers or a professional colleague.

What are we looking for?

The nomination can be entered for one or more of the following categories. Nominees need only be eligible for one of the categories below, and it is essential to outline how/why they meet the category.

  • Innovative practice in the development of library and information services
  • Progress achieved in the implementation of new services or new technologies
  • Successful collaborative ventures, research, or partnerships in library and information services
  • Creative approaches to marketing or promoting library and information services

 

What will the winner receive? 

  • A commemorative trophy
  • A voucher equivalent to one year’s Personal ALIA membership or credit towards ALIA training or a conference in 2026
  • Formal recognition in ALIA News, the Annual Report and on the ALIA website
     

Conditions of entry

  1. Nominations are sought from all LIS sectors in NSW

  2. Nominations must be submitted via the nomination from, and should:
        - Clearly indicate the selection categories being addressed
        - Describe the activities undertaken to meet the selected categories
        - Provide a statement of support from the nominator(s)

  3. The selection process will comprise:
        - A review for eligibility & suitability
        - Final decisions to be made by a selection panel appointed by the ALIA NSW committee.

  4. The decisions made by the selection panel are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  5. ALIA NSW reserves the right to withhold an award should the selection panel advise that no nominees have met the given criteria.
